Why is your motto and tagline "Come and Make It"?

"Come and Make It" is a call to action, perhaps even a dare, to show up in our community and create the things of your dreams.

While it's a perfectly self-explanatory motto on its own, it's also a play on words.

10BitWorks is native to San Antonio, Texas, where a common sight is the historical Gonzales flag from the Texas Revolution. The flag reads "Come and Take It", a long-standing expression of defiance first recorded in the ancient Greek form molon labe. It was also famously used in the Texas Revolution, after the Battle of Gonzales where Texians had refused to return a loaned cannon to Mexican forces when asked. A young woman from Gonzales made a flag with the phrase "come and take it" alongside an image of the cannon.

Of course, we don't endorse war or violence, nor any particular aspects of Texas history and culture, and are a completely nonpartisan organization. However, most Texans will immediately recognize the "Come and Make It" play on words, with "Make" fitting so perfectly in place of "Take".

As a community for hacking, we also appreciate the connotation of defiance borrowed from its origin phrase, especially in a society that's increasingly detached from the art of making your own stuff!
